Anti-Bullying Policy

Bright Kids Academy will not condone any form of bullying and/or harassment. All students are expected to treat fellow classmates and others with dignity and respect. Bright Kids Academy will pursue the necessary measures to create a safe and respectful learning environment for all students and employees.

This policy prohibits bullying, intimidation and/or harassment of students on the basis of actual or perceived race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender-related identity or expression, national origin, ancestry, age, marital status, physical or mental disability, military status, association with a person or group with one or more of the aforementioned actual or perceived characteristics, or any other distinguishing characteristic. Bright Kids Academy will not tolerate harassment, intimidating conduct, or bullying that interferes with a student’s educational performance, or creates a hostile educational environment.

Bullying, intimidation and harassment are prohibited:

-While in school, on school property, on school buses or other school vehicles, or at school-sponsored or school-sanctioned events or activities; or

-During any school-sponsored education program or activity;

-Through the transmission of information from a school computer, a school computer network, or other similar electronic school equipment; or

– Through the transmission of information from a computer that is accessed at a nonschool-related location, activity, function, or program or from the use of technology or an electronic device that is not owned, leased, or used by Bright Kids Academy or its schools if the bullying causes a substantial disruption to the educational process or orderly operation of a school.

This policy shall be communicated annually to students, their parents/guardians and Bright Kids Academy personnel in relevant handbooks and shall be posted on the school’s website.

Bright Kids Academy will implement this policy by: 1) conducting prompt and thorough investigations of all alleged incidents of bullying, intimidation and/or harassment; and 2) providing each student who violates this policy with appropriate consequences and remedial actions.

Bullying Defined

Bullying/harassment is defined as any type of action, physical, verbal, and/or nonverbal, that is repeated, targeted at a student or group of students, that is unwelcome, makes someone feel uncomfortable and unsafe, and prevents students from learning and enjoying school. This includes behavior that threatens the physical, spiritual, and/or psychological well-being of another student, such as, but not limited to, the following:

  • Name-calling
  • Put-downs
  • Taunting
  • Baiting
  • Teasing
  • Imposing physical harm
  • Social exclusion
  • Coercion
  • *Internet Use/Blogging/Social Media

*Cyber-bullying is defined as bullying through the use of technology or any electronic communication, including without limitation any transfer of signs, signals, writing, images, sounds, data, or intelligence of any nature transmitted in whole or in part by a wire, radio, electromagnetic system, photoelectronic system, or photooptical system, including without limitation electronic mail, Internet communications, instant messages, or facsimile communications.

Reporting Procedures

All school employees shall report claims or incidents which could constitute bullying, intimidation, or harassment to the Head of School or the Office Manager completing an Incident Report. Students are encouraged to report claims or incidents which they reasonably believe could constitute bullying, intimidation, or harassment to any school employee. Complaints will be kept confidential to the extent possible given the need to fully investigate the complaint. Anonymous reports will be accepted.

Discipline and Consequences

Any Bright Kids Academy student who is determined, after an investigation, to have engaged in conduct prohibited by this policy will be subject to a range of consequences, including discipline up to suspension and/or expulsion, educational consequences and behavioral consequences.

1st Offense – Teacher/Parent verbal communication

2nd Offense- Sit down meeting between the students parents, teacher, and administrator.

3rd Offense-Suspension from school
